A good desk is the foundation of a setup that looks tidy and feels comfortable. Get these basics right before you spend on anything else.

Size it properly

Measure your space first, then your gear. You want room for your monitor at arm's length, your keyboard and mouse, and a little space to rest your wrists. Deeper desks are more comfortable than they look.

Choose a shape

  • Straight desks are simple and fit most rooms.
  • Z-shaped and L-shaped desks add stability and surface area, handy for dual monitors or a larger setup.

Manage your cables

Cable trays, clips and a powered hub keep cables off the floor and out of sight. Tidy cables are not just about looks, they make cleaning and upgrades far easier.

Mind the ergonomics

Your elbows should sit around 90 degrees and the top of your monitor near eye level. A height-adjustable or standing desk lets you fine-tune this and switch posture through the day.
